The concept of senior living has been gaining traction in recent years owing to the migration of Indians to metro cities and oversees breakdown of the joint family model. In the 2011 census, out of 24.88 crore households, 12.97 crore or 52% were nuclear households. As a result, 15 million elderly Indians are living alone.
 
Presently, there is acute shortage of dedicated senior living facilities in India. Approximately 20,000 units are only at various stages of planning construction and operation phase. In India, only 1 in every 10,000 senior citizen live in senior housing. In contrast, 12 in the United States and 4 in Australia.
